Curious Gardeners

Exploring garden life and all it has to teach us about plants, soil, bugs, birds, food, cooking, and weather.

Have you ever planted a seed? Do you know how long it takes for a carrot to grow? If you closed your eyes, could you taste the difference between a radish, a turnip, and a parsnip?

A garden presents endless opportunity for learning. Regardless of your curiosities, the garden holds something of interest for you! Perhaps you like to play in the dirt, or maybe you like to sit and watch for butterflies. It could be that you really enjoy eating and are always looking for a new snack to cook or nibble. The garden has it all. We will learn a little about a lot of different things. And as we get to know each other, we will dig deep into the topics that hold the most curiosity for us.

Expect to: plant and care for seeds and plants, taste and prepare new and delicious garden grown food, hunt for and identify bugs, explore plant families, ID local birds,  and most importantly, BECOME MORE CURIOUS!

The class takes place in a private but roomy back yard. There are four over-sized garden beds for planting and exploring, potted fruit trees, lots of open space for running and playing and two very friendly and entertaining ducks who like to be fed garden greens.

This is a hands-on  class and follows a progressive model of education.  Our times together are rich in experience and go for depth of understanding. It is a wonderful mix of planned and generative curriculum, integrated multi-subject matter, open play and exploration and always, always, fueled by our CURIOSITY!
